.

Welcome friends, family and supporters! It is official, I am of to Paris on my push bike. This is not a desperate bid to get to the fashion capital on a budget, I have discovered there is so much more to life than Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

On 1 September 2010 I am cycling London to Paris to raise vital funds and awareness for WaterAid.

1 in 8 of the world’s population do not have access to safe water and 2.6 billion (not a typo, that is with a b) do not have access to adequate sanitation.
One child every 20 seconds dies due to diarrhoea caused by unclean and poor sanitation. I hope you are shocked at these appalling statistics and dig deep to support me on my cycle to Paris for a great charity that really does make a difference.

Discover Adventure

Discover Adventure specialises in fundraising trekking and cycling challenges and has been running worldwide trips since 1994 and have helped raise over £50million for many worthy causes. They have a great reputation for their professionally-run trips and quality of service.  Many freelance leaders and doctors help run the fundraising challenges, and they work with lots of overseas ground handlers. The crew plays a large part in making trips enjoyable. All leaders are professional, friendly and experienced at running challenging trips all over the world, as well as being trained in first aid, mechanics, haggling, cocktail making and bad joke-telling to a high standard.

Aiding the Local Economy
Discover Adventure operates a policy of working very closely with the local communities through which we pass. Usually the guides, cooks, porters and drivers etc employed for our trips come from the surrounding villages, as does much of our food and supplies. They aim to aid the local economy at a direct level as much as possible.

'Leave No Trace' Tourism
They understand the potential harm that can come from taking groups through many of the delicate environments and insist on a policy of 'leave no trace' tourism. Going to great lengths to ensure that no harm is inflected on the areas passed through and therefore help to promote responsible, sustainable tourism. A lot of effort is put into informing our participants, both before and during their trip, about the impact they can have on a community and environment.

Welfare of Porters and Local Crew
Issues surrounding the welfare of porters in developing countries is a topic which has attracted a considerable amount of media attention in recent years. The general welfare of porters - and guides, drivers, cooks and any other local personnel employed on trips - as well as the standard of their equipment and level of pay, is very important to Discover Adventure and to their ground crew, who generally recruit local staff for our groups.

Discover Adventure offer a variety of challenges all over the world. From walking The Great Wall of China to cycling through Malawi to trekking across Cuba, there really is something for everyone. You have the option of paying for the trip costs personally or fundraising for a charity of your choice meaning you have to raise a minimum set target and the charity retains 60%.
